C'est fini, snif snif...

Our stay in Australia and Oceania is coming to the end. Unfortunately. It was a wonderful time here and I‘m very sad to leave. The koalas were the big high light. I can‘t describe what I felt when we discovered one in a tree. They are so cute and lovely…
So we enjoyed the 3 days in Port Stephens a lot. We lived in a camping ground in the middle of the forest with koalas in the trees, 5 chicken, 2 dogs, various birds in care (one is a owl which is free) and Josephine, the baby kangaroo in the park who gives smacks and likes to be petted… my paradise. Today we even could go to look at the dolphins. I‘d never seen so big dolphins from so near. Absolutely amazing!
We want to say a big big thank you to all the people who gave us super tips for our 2 weeks journey here, especially to Lisa and David, Linda and Heiko and of course to Roland.
Tomorrow we go back to Sydney and we‘re going to fly one day later to Bangkok. On the 15th we should arrive in Katmandu. I hope the culture shock won‘t be to hard. I must admit I‘m a little afraid but we got some very good tips from Marc (my workmate) - thank you, Marc - so it should be ok.

We will let a lot of things we don‘t need in Bangkok. After thinking I decided to take my MacBook with me, so I will be able to prepare some news to put in the blog but we already heard that the Internet connexions are very slow, so I don‘t know if it will be possible to write regularly.
Anyway, I have to give you again a new blog address. I have no place anymore to give new albums in the second. It annoys! So I make a recapitulation:

Au pays des koalas-In Koalaland

La journée d‘avant-hier a touché le paroxysme de tout ce qu‘on a fait jusqu‘à maintenant: la visite d‘un sanctuaire de koalas. Je ne veux pas passer deux heures à décrire les émotions ressenties à la vue de ces petites créatures les plus craquantes que je connaisse. Ce serait peine perdue. Il faut juste le vivre. Les photos vous en diront un peu plus. En tout cas, une chose est sûre: je suis sur un nuage et je ne veux plus partir d‘ici.

Der Tag von vorgestern hat den Höhepunkt erreicht, von all dem, was wir bisher gemacht haben: Den Besuch in einem Koala Bär Schutzgebiet. Ich will keine Zeit verschwenden, mit der Beschreibung der Gefühle, die wir empfunden haben, als wir diese kleine Kreaturen, die niedlichsten, die ich kenne, gesehen haben. Es würde sowieso nichts bringen. Man muss es nur erleben. Die Fotos werden mehr sagen. Jedenfalls ist eines sicher: Ich befinde mich im siebten Himmel und will hier bleiben.

The day before yesterday reached the paroxysm of everything we did until now: the visit of the Lone pine koala sanctuary. I don‘t want to spend time with describing all the emotions we felt when we saw the most cute creatures we have ever seen. It‘s not possible. It‘s just a thing to live. The pictures will say more. Anyway, one is sure: I‘m on a cloud and I don‘t want to go away from here.

L'équipa au 4-4 rose-Safari à Frazer island

SAFARI A FRAZER ISLAND

Une équipe de 3 Françaises, deux Marseillais et un Allemand a été constituée pour participer à un safari sur l‘île de Frazer, sur la côte est de l‘Australie, en face de Hervey Bay. Munie d‘une jeep de couleur rose nos 6 aventuriers (hum hum) sont parties 3 jours arpenter les chemins de sable de cette île aux trésors cachés: le lac Mc Kenzie, l‘épave du début du XXe siècle, les Pinacles, les dunes de sable et bien d‘autres choses encore. Malheureusement, dus à quelques enlisements plus coriaces que prévus, dont les 6 n‘ont pu se sortir que grâce à un esprit d‘équipe solide, le temps n‘a pas suffi pour le fabuleux lac Wabby.
Le tour avait eu du mal à commencer puisqu‘après 3 minutes de route, Steve, un des participants a voulu réglé le rétroviseur, celui-ci lui étant resté dans les mains. De retour au point de départ, il a fallu se rendre au garage où en arrivant le cable de l‘accélérateur a lui aussi rendu l‘âme. Après un rafistolage rapide et un ravitaillement exécuté en un temps record, le groupe était à l‘heure au départ du ferry.
Le premier soir, ils ont monté leur camp à quelques Kms de Eurong. N‘ayant pas compris qu‘ils auraient dû remplir d‘eau le bidon de 20 litres mis à leur disposition, les 3 garçons de l‘équipe ont fait preuve d‘héroïsme en marchant 2 heures aller-retour dont une heure avec 20 litres sur le dos, pour aller chercher le liquide de survie.
Les 6 ont continué leur expédition après une nuit réparatrice et avec une chaussure en moins pour Mehdi. En effet, celui-ci avait laissé ses flip-flop dehors et s‘est fait dévorer un pied par un dingo (chien sauvage) certainement affamé.
La deuxième nuit aura été moins reposante que la première: d‘une part l‘équipe s‘est couchée plus tard car elle devait finir la partie de cartes commencée (il fallait départager les trous du c… Le président était clair depuis longtemps: Mehdi. Mais entre les trous du c.., c‘était la bataille. Aurélie a gagné… Elle s‘en est pris plein la tête toute la journée suivante!) D‘autre part, Mehdi a ronflé toute la nuit…
En conclusion, les 6 au 4-4 rose se sont beaucoup amusés et l‘île de Frazer restera pour eux un magnifique souvenir.

Sydney

Not one minute I couldn‘t sleep the day before the departure to Australia. I think I was too exciting.
The fly was extremely turbulent… I‘m pretty proud I managed!
We arrived in Sydney and tried to understand how the life is going there: how does it work to call cheap (it‘s the same system like in New Zealand. Cool, so we already know), how much is it to rent a car, etc.
Also in Sydney was foreseen to stay with hospitality club people: Lisa and David. We received a text message: Lisa recommended us to come to the central station because she had a meeting there and we could leave our stuff in the meeting room to go visit the town before going home. Obviously Lisa used to have guests! It was very nice because a locker would have been really expensive.
On about 17 pm we went home together and spent the evening to plane a little our stay in Australia. We got so much tips for Sydney and Queensland. David even looked in internet which possibilities are the best for us, so that we approximately know what we wanted to do and see here. I‘m looking forward!
Sydney is a gorgeous city, exactly the sort of big city I like: Metropole flair, but very green because of the numerous parks. The water makes everything quieter, it‘s clean and you feel safe. Actually Sydney let me think of New York but cleaner and quieter.
We could participate on the 30th „Mardi gras“ (the Australian street parade) as well!
But now Hervey Bay and the Fraser islands are waiting for us!

Le pays du bonheur

Il existe un pays merveilleux où la nature est intacte, les animaux sont heureux, et les êtres humains détendus. Tout le monde vit ensemble en parfaite harmonie. On se croise dans la rue et se sourit. Si l‘on se bouscule, on s‘excuse poliment. On fait la queue, on entame une discussion. Dans ce lieu à part, tout semble facile. Les labradors s‘acoquinent avec les chats et les lapins, eux-mêmes amis des chevaux, ces derniers se trouvant dans le même enclos que les daims. On respecte la nature car on vit avec. On ne trouve pas de poubelle, mais on garde ses déchets avec soi. On ne voit pas de pancartes indiquant ce qu‘il ne faut pas faire, mais plutôt des enseignes de recommandation. Chacun est ensuite libre et responsable de choisir. Tout marche parfaitement dans le meilleur des mondes. A l‘école, le prof ne représente pas seulement le savoir, mais est bien plus une personne d‘expérience là pour aider les élèves à devenir des adultes bons, heureux, responsables et donc libres. Il aide les jeunes adultes à se réaliser eux-mêmes. Les cours sont constamment influencés par cet objectif. Dans ce contexte, la „discipline“ se fait d‘elle-même et on ne trouve d‘ailleurs pas accrochés aux murs ce qu‘il est interdit de faire, mais plutôt ce qu‘il faut faire afin de respecter les autres.
Alors, si vous ne croyez plus qu‘un monde meilleur est possible, allez faire un tour en Nouvelle-Zélande et vous retrouverez votre optimisme.

Das Rezept des Glücks

Mission: Eine Schule finden
Grund: das neuseeländische Schulsystem kennenlernen und neue Ideen bekommen.

Zwei Hundert Meter von unserem Kiwi Homestay ist eine. Ich muss also hineingehen, die Rezeption finden, und fragen, ob ich am nächsten Tag kommen könnte. Das sind unsere letzten 24 Stunden in Neuseeland und somit die letzte Möglichkeit einen Unterricht zu besuchen. Die Schule ist riesig.
Alle lächeln.
Ich finde die Rezeption. Man führt mich zu Ros, einer Frankreich Fan, weil ihre Tochter dort lebt.
Natürlich sieht man in meinem Wunsch, hier zu hospitieren, kein Problem. Man fragt mich, was mich am meisten interessieren würde, und da der Französischunterricht genau im Moment stattfindet, bringt man mich ganz spontan hin. Am nächsten Tag werde ich noch Englisch und Psychologie anschauen dürfen. Alles kein Problem, alles mit lächeln, alles stresslos. Wow… wie angenehm!
Am 28. Februar gegen 9.15 mache ich mich also auf den Weg zur Schule und begebe mich ins Zimmer 103 in die Englischstunde. Der Englischlehrer ist am Reden: Gedichtbesprechung.
Ich verstehe nicht viel, aber die Pädagogik scheint nicht besonders zu sein, jedenfalls nicht, dass als revolutionär gelten könnte und die pädagogischen Mittel sind sogar um einiges älter und weniger zahlreich, als in der Schweiz.
Es herrscht aber was anderes ist. Ich beobachte, lese, was an den Wänden steht und stosse auf den Organisationsplan des Jahres. Langsam verstehe ich: die Schule hier ist eine Zusammenarbeit. Gut, das ist bei uns mehr oder weniger auch. Aber hier fühlen es die Schüler auch so. Also Disziplinprobleme, adieu!
Pause: Mir wird die Schule gezeigt: eine grosse Bibliothek mit vielen Computern, die die Schüler in der Mittagspause benutzen dürfen, ein Beratungszentrum für Berufe, eine schöne Mensa, draussen viele kleine Tische und Bänke zum Sitzen und Essen, grüne Plätzchen. Und wieder Lächeln.
Nächster Unterricht: Psychologie. Cool, das gibt es bei uns nicht. Der Unterricht beginnt mit Stretching der Finger, der Handgelenke und der Hände. Ich mache mit. Wow, stimmt, es tut wirklich gut.
Die Stunde fängt „richtig“ an. Einmal mehr verstehe ich vieles nicht, aber der Umgang mit den Kindern ist wieder das, was mich beeindruckt. Immer wird ruhig und respektvoll geredet. Nie sagt man: “du musst das machen“, sondern „ich hätte gern, dass...“ Die Disziplin hat eine andere Bedeutung hier. Man denkt nach dem Motto, Disziplinprobleme gibt es nicht, wenn…
Wenn was? Etwas weiter im Unterricht wird es mir klar: Der Lehrer stellt, wie bei uns, das Wissen dar. Aber viel mehr ist er eine Person mit Erfahrung, dessen Zweck ist, den Schülern zu helfen, gute, glückliche, verantwortliche, also freie Erwachsene zu werden. Er hilft den jungen Erwachsenen, sich selber zu finden und aufzublühen. Der Unterricht hat dieses Ziel ständig in Sicht und wird davon beeinflusst. Warum geht so was bei uns nicht?
Jetzt verstehe ich besser, warum sich die Leute auf der Strasse anlächeln, warum sie so relaxed und freundlich sind, sowie so respektvoll miteinander umgehen. Nicht nur die Leute, auch die Tiere sind ruhig. Ich habe nie einen Hund bellen gehört, was mich von anderen Neuseelandbewohnern bestätigt worden ist.
Wie schön und einfach kann das Leben sein, wenn alle miteinander etwas dafür tun. Das beweist Neuseeland. Ich bin echt traurig das Land zu verlassen. Aber ich freue mich auf Australien.

Shane, symbol of New Zealand

We planned to spend 5 nights in Christchurch. First we wanted to stay 2 nights in Akaroa and 3 nights in Christchurch but there was no place anymore in den Backpackers of the French peninsula. So Steve decided to call Shane, who he knew from „Couchsurfing“: 2 nights with Shane and 3 nights with Nicola and Calvin from Hospitality club.
We arrived in Christchurch on the afternoon. Shane was not at home but texted: the door is open, make yourself at home, I have not wireless but you can plug in your own computer with my internet cable.
Wow, the life is so easy here…
We arrived at Oxford Street. En effect the door was open. I don‘t mean unlocked, I mean really open! And nobody at home. After a short time, Oleg, the first flat mate of Shane arrived. Oleg is from Kirgisistan. He had to show us where it is! On the next day he flied back: 3 days trip and 6 different planes… Of course it was very interesting to speak with him. Suddenly the second flat mate of Shane appeared. I say „appeared“ because we saw him arrive from the balcony. What was surprising is that the balcony is on the second floor, so relatively high from the bottom! But climbing is not a problem for Shane‘s friends. (Andy from England (we got know a day later) does the same! ) Fernando, the second flat mate, is from Brazil. He can speak Spanish and is learning to dance salsa, so it was funny with him. Then Shane arrived. We spent a cool evening together.
We liked Christchurch. The beach is incredible and the environment too. The town is not very big but lovely.
When we went back home, Adelaide from France and 2 other Backpackers from the US were also there. Couchsurfing! Shane is incredible. He never says no to backpackers who call him! He even finds boring when he‘s alone at home! Actually he reflects New Zealand very well: easy, friendly, relaxed.
We spent a nice evening with playing the settlers of Catan and speaking about the trip of each.
On the next day Martin and Karine, also from France stayed with Shane. They do a world trip as well but in the other direction! We could get a lot of informations about Nepal and give many tips for Costa Rica.
With Calvin and Nicola it was nice too. That is what is interesting with hospitality club: You meet Locals and they can give you all the insider tips.
In the night to the last February day and after a great evening in a salsa pub with Andy and Shane we left our dear New Zealand, sad but also curious about Australia.
